Denise Clerkin (Facebook) I had the pleasure of staying at Mountmellick Forum a couple of months ago and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!!!! I have stayed in worse hotels, the Forum is more like a quaint Boutique hotel than a hostel…..well worth a visit.Xx  Stayed 2018

Missed cooked breakfast and as we were going to ladies day at races full length mirror would have been great .We both have bad eye sight so combination lock numbers very small but brilliant place to stay for cost and value for money. Would not expect the cooked breaky at this price. Aoife could not have been more help she was excellent. Forgot to ask her if there was wifi conection password. Stayed  4th July 2015

The wi-fi didn`t work some reason?   Action, WFI boosters have been added in key locations. The vast stone walls are difficult for wfi to penetrate. If anyone can recommend a way of further boosting signal, we would be eternally grateful.

The staff is very kind and very helpful ;the building is special ( it was a church ) it`s, in the middle of the town; very clean and tidy; the kitchen is perfect ;my room was quiet and comfortable . Stayed 24th June 2015

“Cycle Against Suicide Participant”

The outside still looks very much like a church, a banner or different type of signage outside might help.

Facility central in town, spotlessly clean, friendly welcome. It is the cleanest, best kept hostel I have ever stayed in. Stayed 15th May 2015

This is far from your typical hostel, it is beautiful inside and finished to a high standard. The rooms are also lovely and very comfortable. The forum offers a fully equipped kitchen and extremely spacious dining area. The manager Aoife is extremely accomodating and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were really sad to leave. It’s goes without saying that we will be returning ASAP. Stayed July 2015, travelled with family

The Forum is without doubt the nicest hostel I have stayed in. It’s a beautiful old church in the heart of Mountmellick that has been converted into a hostel with a high quality finish. The hostel manager, Aoife, was most welcoming and very flexible when it came to meeting us for check-in. The twin room we stayed in was delightful and the beds were very comfortable. We shared a bathroom with just one other room. The kitchen was well stocked with breakfast materials and had all the equipment one would need to cook up a storm! I would definitely recommend staying here, even over a hotel. Thanks for a lovely one night stay, wish we could have stayed longer. Stayed July 2015, travelled with friends

I stayed overnight here on route to the 13th leg of the Cycle Against Suicide (Portlaoise), which was fully supported by this establishment by a discount which I passed on. I was warmly welcomed on arrival by Aoife, the manager and felt at home there straightaway. It’s an ideal spot for cyclists who want to explore the Sliabh Bloom mountains, so I will certainly be back again before the end of the summer, if they’ll have me.

I would have no hesitation in recommending The Forum. It would make an excellent base for exploring the area. It’s as the pictures show and more. Stayed May 2015, travelled solo

This was my first holiday in Ireland. To call the Forum a hostel does not do the place justice. This chapel has been converted to a very high standard with every possible facility we could ask for. Ok the bathroom was shared with one other room but who cares!

Mountmellick may not be the most obvious choice for a stay in Eire but the locals were welcoming and there are plenty of pubs to choose from within walking distance. It’s also an ideal base for attractions such as the Slieve Bloom mountains, Tullamore distillery and the National Stud etc. Highly recommended. Stayed April 2015, travelled with friends

I was a little apprehensive when I was told we were going to stay in an Hostel Hotel but they was nothing to worry about. It was fabulous. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, the main room was huge and had a woodburner. The kitchen was new spacious and modern. The bedrooms were very comfortable with en suite bathroom. Aoife was great and told us of the interesting Museums and pubs in the immediate area. You will not be disappointed. Stayed April 2015, travelled with friends

The Forum is a hidden gem located 6 miles/10km from Portlaoise, Co Laois, Ireland.
It is located in the centre of Mountmellick town. Ample parking is available to the rear of the building and in the town centre square. It is a newly established business offering hostel type accommodation ideally suitable for visitors traveling by car to Birr Castle, Dunmore caves and the Sliabh Bloom Mountains or for visitors traveling from Dublin by bus to Mountmellick town centre. The re-development of this small church was carried out with a good balance between maintaining the historical and including the contemporary. The bathrooms and kitchen are “state of the art”. Every aspect of the accommodation is new, pristine clean and offers a great opportunity for those who would like to pursue the hostel experience for the 1st time. The hostel caters for groups of two (two bedrooms with 2 single beds) and also offers accommodation for groups of up to 8 individuals. The prices are very reasonable. Just visited The Forum Hostel in Mountmellick recently as a friend was staying there. Checking it out for a future event I am organising. It looks fabulous. It is an old Church and the sitting room is the Church itself and is so lovely and restful. It has all the hostel facilities ie kitchen, private parking etc. The rooms are spacious and have a private key code for entry. My friend, down for the Ploughing Championships, was delighted with it. It is in the town centre so near all facilities. Definitely will be organising my event around using the hostel as the accommodation. Great value for money. Took one rating off only as it is not fully finished yet but this is mostly for outside work at this stage.

Room Tip: There are family rooms and smaller rooms so just ask.
